See Ya Later: Photographing Emotion

Before she died, my mom learned "fist bumping" from an aide in the hospital.
He told her, "Around here, we don't say goodbye, we say, 'see ya later!'" From that point forward, she fist-bumped everyone who came through our house for the last two weeks of her life.
I fist-bumped her casket when I passed it for the final time and said, "See ya later, Millie Goich".
The photo inspired an entire memoir, published in November. www.14daysamemoir.com. All from one, single photo.
If you have a camera, you can photograph symbols, abstract images, and literal interpretations of people, places, and things regardless of your skill level. The process of creating images allows you to spend time reflecting on your emotions and to feel closer to your loved one’s memory. Have you spent time photographing emotion? How about symbols that remind you of your loved one? Submit your photographs and writing to be shared on PhotoGrief. Also, subscribe.
